Who we are
Dared.App, 1301 Marina Hotel Apartments, Dubai Marina, Dubai (“Dared”, “we”) runs the Dared app and dared.app. We are the controller of your personal data. Questions about privacy go to contact@dared.app.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: your Apple or Google sign-in identifier and email, or your phone number if you sign in by text message | To create your account and sign you in |
| Birth year | To check you are 13 or older. We store the year only, not your date of birth |
| Profile: name, username, photo, bio and the interests you pick | To show who you are in your cohort and suggest challenges |
| Challenge activity: the challenges and cohorts you join, check-ins, streaks, streak freezes, cheers, follows, buddy pairings and reminders you set | To run the challenge, your streak and the leaderboard |
| Proof: the photos, videos and notes you post as check-ins and showcases, and peer reviews | To show your progress to your cohort and verify your finish |
| Cohort posts: posts, replies, questions and answers, and questions you ask the assistant | To run the cohort feed and answer your questions |
| Stakes (optional): the amount you choose and where a missed stake goes | To hold and settle the stake. Card details are handled by the payment provider; we never see or store your card number |
| Notifications: your push token and notification settings | To send the reminders and updates you ask for |
| Reports and appeals you send or that concern you | To keep the community safe (see our community rules) |
| Technical data: IP address, device type, app version and error logs kept by our hosting providers | To keep the service secure and working |
If you connect a Telegram or Discord group as a creator, we store the group's identifier and the check-ins members send to the Dared bot there.
We don't collect your precise location, your contacts or your advertising identifier.
How we use it and our legal bases
- To provide Dared (performance of our contract with you): accounts, challenges, check-ins, cohorts, verification, stakes and notifications.
- To keep Dared safe (legitimate interest and legal obligation): moderation, fraud and abuse prevention, and acting on reports.
- With your consent: push notifications and optional features you turn on. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings or your device settings.
We don't use your data for advertising, we don't build advertising profiles and we don't sell or “share” personal information as the CCPA defines it.
What other people see
Your profile, check-ins, proof, posts and showcases are visible to the people in your cohort, and showcases you publish can be visible to anyone with the link. The creator who runs a challenge sees who joined and who checked in. Your buddy sees whether you checked in today. Your birth year, phone number, email and stake details are never shown to other users.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: database, authentication and file storage for photos and videos.
- Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in and push notification delivery.
- Twilio: sending one-time sign-in codes by text message.
- Payment provider: processing optional stakes.
- Cloudflare: hosting this website.
- AI provider: generating assistant answers from the challenge plan and your question. Your questions are not used to train their models.
Some providers are outside your country, including in the United States. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on adequacy decisions or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers.
We may disclose data if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
How long we keep it
- Account, profile and activity: while your account exists.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, check-ins, proof, posts and other content within 30 days. Backups roll off within a further 30 days.
- Records we must keep by law, such as payment records for stakes, are kept for as long as that law requires.
- Reports and moderation decisions are kept for up to 12 months after they are closed, or longer if needed for a legal claim or a report to authorities.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- see and download the data we hold about you;
- correct it (most of it you can edit in the app);
- delete your account and data (how to delete your account);
- object to or restrict some processing, and withdraw consent;
- port your data to another service.
EU, EEA and UK residents also have the right to complain to their data protection authority. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither) and not to be discriminated against for using these rights.
Email contact@dared.app from the address or phone number on your account to use any of these rights. We answer within 30 days.
Children
Dared is not for children under 13, and we ask for your birth year before you can join. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we delete it. If you think a child under 13 is using Dared, tell us at contact@dared.app. See our child safety standards.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access to your data is restricted by row-level security in our database, and only the people who need it to run the service can access production systems.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Contact: Dared.App, 1301 Marina Hotel Apartments, Dubai Marina, Dubai, contact@dared.app.
